Bamboo Potted Plant

Static mesh imports as plant on the right.  It may have to be scaled up like the one on the left.

This was my first time making a potted plant.  I followed video tutorials that Murilo gave to me that were for making foliage and trees from 3DS Max to UDK and I had to extrapolate it myself for Maya.  The trunk is modeled with a normal map and a bark texture I made in Photoshop.  There are two kinds of branches that I made from high-poly branches which I used to make image textures for the cards for the branches.

For the next version of this bamboo plant, I'll make 3 kinds of branches and make the stems curved next time to make it look more organic.

Pot needs a lightmap or something.

Floor Lamp
Based on the gravity-powered floor lamp article:

A weight falls from the top of lamp to the bottom.  Kinetic energy of falling weight powers the light. For the moon, it is calibrated for lunar gravity.  When weight reaches bottom, lamp switches to normal power from the plug or someone can turn the lamp upside down.  Middle of the lamp is hinged so that it can be turned manually.

Crawler Physics Asset Updated

Better physics asset setup for crawler.  Several collision boxes for bones inside neck that expands had to be fused with the torso and pelvis collision boxes in order to work.

Creature AI Update


Progress made:

  • Can kill crawler.
  • Ragdoll setup keeps bot from exploding
  • Attack animation plays
Files will be available in the dropbox soon.

Progress to come:
  • Run upon line of sight of player
  • Ragdoll constraints setup so that when killed, crawler body does not slither around.
  • After first shot, crawler transforms to longer neck and becomes more aggressive: moves much faster toward player with frequent attacks
  • Change damage from bump event to end of attack animation.

Imported Steve's crawler creature with walking animation into UDK and added patrolling and chasing AI scripts. Files can be found here in the dropbox: ET 49 SPRING 2013 > UDK > Crawler_UDK_04-24-2013.zip.
